It is a member of the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India (UELCI) & Lutheran World Federation (LWF). MELC is based in the state of India's Manipur state and has Missionary Fields in Manipur, Tripura, Varanasi. Initially, it was established as the Jou Christian Association (JCA) on the 20th of February 1954 with a few believers at Daijang Village, Churachandpur District of Manipur state in India.
